  • Ivo Papazov was born in Kurdzhali on the 16 February 1952. He was only nine years old when he first got involved with music. At first he learned the accordion, but in line with his family tradition he moved on to the clarinet. His family came from Dedeagach, then part of it moved to Dzhebel and from there to Kurdzhali. His great grandfathers were zurna players, but his grandfather became the first clarinet player in Thrace. His father and his musician colleagues were so impressed by the mastery and skills which Ivo showed as he taught himself the clarinet that they sent him to a children’s music school with the clarinetist Peter Filipov. But his real school turned out to be the multitude of weddings where Ivo went with his father, and where he learned to master the instrument and develop his virtuoso technique. At the same time, he studied at the school of construction in Kurdzhali. In 1974, when he was only 22 years old, he formed his first band.

_Ateshhan Yuseinov is one of the most interesting guitar players, not only on the Balkan. Apart from the guitar Yuseinov is famous for his multi-instrumental skills. He is equally in command of playing the tambura as well as the saz.

  • I am putting together some more tour dates for Police Bastard for June 2009 and wanted to know if you or anyone you know would be able to offer a show for the band at a venue on any of Wed 24th, Thurs 25th, Sat 27th or Sun 28th of June. The band will be playing at Northampton Punx Picnic on Friday 26th June and I’m trying to add a couple of shows on the Wednesday and Thursday before or the Sunday after. cheers mark

Police Bastard has been influenced by many different bands ranging from the likes of Discharge/Chaos UK to Amebix, Rudimentary Peni, Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath, The Cardiacs, Killing Joke. This makes up a dark, agressive hardcore sound without losing power or focus. Risen from the ashes of Britian’s largest hardcore thrash bands: Doom, Sore Throat, Filthkick, Sensa Yuma and Contempt, Police Bastard was born in May of 1994. In a year and a half they stacked up a staggering number of gigs and a large following.

  • Ted Chippington (born 1960) is a British stand-up comedian and entertainer. His act is one in which the conventions of his chosen craft are routinely flouted. Assuming a diffident on-stage persona (in contrast to the self-confident aura of most comics) and delivering his material in a West Midlands monotone, he eschews observational comedy favour of anti-humour and jokes which are mostly variations on the same theme (see examples below), interspersed with his own versions of well-known songs performed in a similarly listless style. This approach has left many audiences bemused or even hostile (his legendary expertise at dealing with hecklers comes from frequent practice).

  • The Music Network is open to all on Thursday 30th April 2009 4pm til 6pm at Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC), Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7XG.

If you have any involvement in music, come and talk about what you’re up to and meet some new people.

The Music Network organises a NETWORKING EVENT on the last Thursday of each month, for the benefit of music related businesses in the West Midlands region.

If you are a musician, work with musicians, represent musicians, have involvement with the music industry, or are looking to make new contacts the meeting will be useful to you.

If you have news to report, a presentation to give, an event to promote, any new points for discussion, a pitch to make, business cards or flyers to hand round, an appeal for help, advice or guidance or even if you just want the free tea and biscuits and some quality entertainment…you are all invited.
