If you didn't hear about it, Quit Myspace Day came into being with this superb article written last year by music industry academic Andrew Dubber. In it he outlines the root cause of the one thing about Myspace on which everyone can agree – it's a bit rubbish. He also gave them a year to clean their act up, failing which, he declared that there should be a Quit Myspace Day where we all up and leave.
Due to the flocking nature of social networking, Myspace has, as Dubber puts it, every fricking band on the planet, to say nothing of a large proportion of the promoters, studios, merchandisers and other ancillary music types. With the right strategy it could be the best music site in the world, both for musicians and music fans. But it is not.

Dufus: Eth
NEW CD 2010After almost 13 years and 10 full length recordings, Dufus is putting out our final album. This album’s production includes Seth Faergolzia’s voice and compositional wizardry, a horn section, two drummers, violin, a choir, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, toy piano, accordion, flute, and circuit bent noise instruments. It is our most grandiose and well plotted production. The content addresses a number of ideas including the importance of silence, long time friends, post-child breakups, love, schizophrenia, and profound dream stories.

3. life is empty

The Music Network is open to all on Thursday 28th September 2010 The Meeting will be lead this month by Andy Derrick and Mark Badger from 4pm til 6pm at Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7XG
The Music Network organises a NETWORKING EVENT on the last Thursday of each month, for the benefit of music related businesses in the West Midlands region. If you have any involvement in music, come and talk about what you’re up to and meet some new people. These Networking events are about all things music in the region. They’re about helping you to teach yourself how to do it, by yourself, for yourself and encourages you to share the knowledge with others so they can do the same. If you are a musician, a student, someone who works with musicians, represents musicians, has involvement with the music industry, or are looking to make new contacts…..the meeting will be useful.

Here is something that raises some interesting issues, what do you make of it all?
Why #quitmyspace day is pointless

http://www.newmusicstrategies.com/2010/10/23/the-time-has-come-its-quit-myspace-day/
Andrew Dubber, a lecturer in Birmingham and speaker on issues connected with the music industry has decided he really doesn’t like myspace.
His argument includes opinion that the interface and public side of the pages aren’t very nice (I agree) although he is fairly quiet on the grey issue of rights for music uploaded to the site.
However the arrogance that he thinks he has the influence to exact a massive blow to this huge site is ridiculous.
Your comments please…..

Legalize Cannabis Protest in Victoria Square , Birmingham City Centre.
6th November 1pm – 4pm
There will be speakers present and pressThe idea behind the day is to promote the Legalization on Cannabis for medical or any other use.
We are asking that everyone brings one pre-rolled "herbal cigarette" and nothing else illegal. At 1:30pm we plan to all light up together infront of the press to promote our cause.
Obviously there may be a police presence and obviously they may take action, however if you feel strongly enough about your right to smoke cannabis, we feel that the punishment will be insignificant in regards to the amount of good we will do for the cause.
We are looking to book a few famous speakers and encourage you all to bring your posters, banners and anything you think will help promote our cause.
more details will follow but please, if you believe you have a right to use Cannabis, come along and show your support. Pass this on.
