Last Under The Sun – “Gone” CD Review from Itchy Bum ‘Zine:

http://www.itchybumzine.com/reviews/2010/5/28/last-under-the-sun-gone-cd.html

…..To all intents and purposes Last… are a punk band, but they’re a punk band which transcends punk and takes it off in a unique direction – one that defies labelling. Sure they have fast songs, and sure the drums can, on occasion, pound you into submission, but many of the songs are built around a slow-burning melody that grows and grows as the song progresses. And it’s this quality that sets Last Under The Sun apart from the pack. And that, my friends, is certainly no bad thing. We need a few more bands doing something “different”. - Itchy Bum ‘Zine 2010

“Gone” CD Review – Rock Links / Nick J. Townsend’s Monthly Column

“One of the greatest (if not the greatest) bands to come out of England in the past 10 years. That’s a bold statement and yes I made it because I totally believe it too. This band is brutal, hard hitting, powerful, with deep lyrics, genius, talented and amazing live too. I could go on, and I will. The guitars and riffs this band produce are world class and will fuel the hardest stomper. The best of the best at what they do. They are hardcore, they are punk, they are metal, they are a million other great things, Last Under The Sun are the band I want playing at my funeral. I think that says it all really. If a band makes you want to hear them after you are dead then that truly must be the ultimate thing.” - Rock Links / Nick J Townsend’s Monthly Column

Last Under The Sun – “Gone” CD Review – Paul E.D Music World Radio

“You will not get a suntan, but a nice ear blast.

This is not a full throttle hardcore punk album with 25 two second songs.  This is more a roller-coaster of sounds. From short 3 minute songs to 5-6 epic offerings, if you like punk with a more eclectic, ‘off your head’ edge; with quiet electronic element in live instrument form, then check this out.

From subtle songs to ballistic missiles. Starts with Time For Your Leaving then dives into Aphex Twin live band style Painting Is Dead.

The trolley song is what you would expect on the album. The punk/indie cross, thrashing the guitar riffs then to what sounds like like acoustic cuts. Great guitar riffs with vocals from Mark. The song reminds me of The Wedding Present.

If you were expecting straight down the road raw punk, this will take you by surprise. Half of the Police Bastard line up on this album, which is the reason for the crossover sound.

If you want an album to leave you gasping for breath then this is for you.

If you have never heard this band before, think The Wedding Present crossed with Aphex Twin elements and fast guitar work” - Paul E.D Music World Radio (January 2010)

More words…..

“..it seems only fitting that their debut CDEP be a focused, uncompromising attack on callous warmongers everywhere…. the importance of the message being delivered utterly eclipses the medium that delivers it.” Ian Glasper – Terrorizer Magazine – Issue 132 June 2005

“..a bass and rhythm section as tight as eberneezer scrooge…..Too short by half, this is nonetheless essential and extreme.” Positive Creed fanzine

“..hardcore punk rock in total English style: fast and chaotic and like a fist to the head…..This will fuel you like Crazy.” No Front Teeth Fanzine

“Last Under The Sun are one of the best hardcore bands around they create songs with a clear message and deliver them in crushing and uncompromising style.” Will Munn Rhtyhm and Booze Fanzine

“..great hooks and a furious sense of energy driving the whole thing. This is one of the best punk rock records I’ve heard recently from Britain (Birmingham)” Reason to Believe #10 Fanzine

  • Emerging contemporary artists from Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the West Midlands will be among the first in the country to have samples of their current work permanently stored in the British Library music archive.

This is because they have been selected for a new website which showcases the very best new independent music from the West Midlands.

The PILOT PROJECT website – www.pilot-project.co.uk – went live Thursday, November 18 in Birmingham, at 7pm.

Music on the site will be accessible to stream, and the site database is fully searchable. The music and data will also be stored permanently in the British Library’s music archive as part of the British Library’s New Music Network. This aims to document contemporary British independent music of all types as it is made available through websites, blogs and other digital platforms.

  • One of the most charismatic and theatrical of the new wave of British folk bands hits the road in support of their acclaimed, self-titled debut album on Balling The Jack Records.

The band have shared stages, recordings, and personnel with the likes of Mumford & Sons (Ted Dwane of the Mumfords was their bassist) Noisettes, Mystery Jets, Band of Skulls (Emma Richardson guests on their album), and even the Ting Tings

They have played Glastonbury, Bestival and Summer Sundae amongst many others. They have busked across Europe and led music workshops with kids in Bosnia. They have enchanted twenty-odd festivals this summer – as well as performing gigs on boats; with a 100-voice choir; up a Maltese mountain and in their own back garden.

1 Big Smoke – Birmingham, 6th November 2010 at 12pm Victoria Square, Birmingham, UK

November 4, 2010

Birmingham, Victoria Square, November 6th 12pm til 4pm. Here’s an update on 1 big smoke take 4. There is a 1 Big Smoke Facebook page here

1 Big Smoke - Birmingham, 6th November 2010 at 12pm Victoria Square, Birmingham, UK

News from Colin: “BBC3 have said they are coming to do video footage for a doc they are airing next year. Almost 200 attending from all over the UK. The biggest cannabis community gathering Birmingham has ever seen. Keep spreading the whole cannabis hemp truth and nothing but the whole cannabis hemp truth.”

Here are the aims, principles and proposals from http://www.lca-uk.org

PRINCIPLES
We believe the use of cannabis ought to be a matter of choice and not of law.

We believe that the prohibition of cannabis is against the public interest.

We believe that the prohibition of cannabis contravenes Human Rights.

We believe that the prohibition of cannabis inhibits the use of a beneficial resource.

We believe that the legalisation of cannabis is a very important step that should be taken to benefit the people and their environment.

AIMS
To hasten the full legalisation and utilisation of the cannabis plant for the good of the peoples of this world, on a local, national and international level.

To secure the release of all prisoners convicted only of cannabis offences and to ensure that all criminal records for cannabis offences are expunged.

To encourage public and private research into the many beneficial uses of cannabis including industrial, social and medical uses for the good of the people
.

To halt all criminal prosecutions for the use of cannabis as a social or private relaxant including its uses as a sacrament or in religious or other ritual.

To provide a voice for those in society persecuted and prosecuted for cannabis activities that victimise none.

PROPOSALS
That cannabis and cannabis products should be removed from the UK Misuse of Drugs Act, thereby being legalised.

That the possession, cultivation and use of pure cannabis and cannabis products be free from prosecution

That cannabis be re-introduced into our society.

That high priority be given to the cultivation of cannabis for the express purpose of the localised production of virtually cost-free fuels through the process of pyrolysis on cannabis biomass, and as a source of fibre and hurd.

That provision be made to enable the setting up of public establishments where the use of cannabis is permitted.

That provision be made to enable the setting up of outlets for the legal supply of cannabis.

That at least the same level of protection be given to the cannabis consumer as is given to the consumers of other commodities: weights and measures, quality etc.

That all prisoners presently held only on cannabis convictions or charges be released from custody without delay and that all criminal records for cannabis offences be expunged.
