Survival in the Independent Music Scene is not easy. Iron Man Records has had to cultivate a variety of survival skills in the challenging landscape of independent music. Changing habits post-COVID, the cost of living crisis, Brexit, the cost of touring, fuel prices, and the impact of streaming services have significantly affected the environment in which musicians operate.
In an era where listeners are bombarded with music choices, pursuing a career in music has become unsustainable for many. Simply earning enough to cover basic operating expenses feels like a mad dream for most artists.

The Struggles of Musicians
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” – Oscar Wilde
Musicians often juggle multiple jobs to generate income for their bills while seeking the freedom to create music. Some are fortunate enough to sell a few tickets and merchandise like T-shirts, but for many, the traditional income streams they relied upon have almost dried up. This has left them navigating a challenging landscape, often going from gig to gig and T-shirt sale to T-shirt sale, in search of new supporters who appreciate their art. The journey is tough, and it’s no surprise that many feel overwhelmed and consider giving up.
Supporting Musicians
“I am only a madman among the mad.” – Emil Cioran
Iron Man Records is dedicated to helping musicians adapt to these harsh realities, assisting them in facing physical challenges and navigating encounters with commercial groups that can be hostile or problematic. Musicians have had to become incredibly resourceful, scavenging for supplies, repairs, finding affordable fuel and places to stay on tour. Musicians have to utilize whatever resources they can find to sustain themselves and overcome the obstacles in their pursuit of music.
Iron Man Records works hard, sometimes for money, more often for free, to help musicians at all levels by guiding them through difficult decisions, assessing threats, and helping them to recognize scams and time wasters. Iron Man Records always aims to help musicians maximize any opportunity that may appear.
Survival Skills
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
In what some describe as an almost post-apocalyptic environment, musicians must develop survival skills and resilience to stay active in their craft. Iron Man Records is committed to supporting musicians and recognising that every artist has a piece of the puzzle, their life has value, and their work should be presented properly.
