PERFORMANCE STORYTELLING by TUUP MUSIC by HAMID MANTU and TIM WHELAN of Transglobal Underground. The Story of "Children of the sweet water" Catalogue Number Mule 16 Enter a world of supernatural beasts, power, jealousy & transformation. Medieval rulers of England and France often claimed descent from a part demonic, part angelic, part human, part fish-tailed creature called Melusine - a creator of peace and of conflict, a builder of cities, a vengeful daughter and a wronged wife – a legendary figure who the kings would credit for their achievements and blame for their cruelties. Tour Management: Going to Ireland and crossing the UK/EU Border using a Carnet

If you have Tour Dates in Ireland and you're travelling with a Carnet for your Musical Equipment, Mark at Iron Man Records explains how to keep it simple when crossing the UK/EU Border in a Splitter Van. I took Sinead O'Brien to Ireland in October 2022 working as Tour Manager via Holyhead to Dublin Port. Here's what I would recommend if you have Tour Dates to play, the UK/EU Border to cross, and a Carnet for Musical Equipment to deal with. The first thing to do is book your Ferry as required. Be sure to buy a “Passenger” ticket for a 9 seater Splitter van as it is classified as a…

Sinead O’Brien – European Tour 2022

“You have seen nothing yet”, asserts Sinead O’Brien in single Girlkind – and you are inclined to believe her. Building on her arresting releases since 2018, the multifaceted Irish poet, songwriter and performer is ascending into new territory with her debut LP, Time Bend and Break the Bower, released via Chess Club Records. Demanding a visceral response from her audiences, O’Brien issues a challenge to those who would box her music inside a notion of tradition. Instead, the artist’s poetry – a constant, active absorption of how people speak, communicate and clash in the era we are living through – is an essential clarion call heard in the future. Communing at…

Sheema Mukherjee – Sheema (Vinyl) with USB stick

"Classically trained but a fusioneer by nature, sitarist Sheema Mukherjee has played with trance troupe Transglobal Underground and folk radicals the Imagined Village among others. This solo debut (vinyl/MP4 only)  draws from her palette with panache. Slash Sitar is a showboating rock  thrash (air sitar, anyone?); Sikkim Girls comes drenched in Bollywood  strings; Morning Celeste is a dreamy neoclassical raga; and the driving  Little Dragon sounds as though John Lee Hooker had mastered the sitar.  More unexpected are sweetly sung covers of Radiohead and Françoise Hardy  and playful evocations of 60s pop (Mrs Moo) and sodden samosas on an  English beach (Bit God). A charming, altogether singular creation." - Neil Spencer…

Tour Management: Crossing the UK/EU Border Using a Carnet

If you are a band with European Tour Dates and are travelling in a Splitter Van with a Carnet across the UK/EU Border for the first time since Brexit, Mark at Iron Man Records explains how to keep it simple. I took an Americana Band called Mipso across Europe in June 2022. I learned a lot about post Brexit Border crossing. Here's what I would recommend if you have Tour Dates to play, the UK/EU Border to cross, and a Carnet to deal with. The first thing to do is go by Eurotunnel. Get a “passenger” ticket for a 9 seat Splitter van as it is classified as “a passenger carrying…

Mipso – European Tour Dates June 2022

In the springtime of 2019, Mipso headed out on several writing retreats around their home state, with a mission of laying down the framework for their self-titled sixth album. In a particularly charmed outing for the North Carolina-bred four-piece—fiddle player Libby Rodenbough, mandolinist Jacob Sharp, guitarist Joseph Terrell, and bassist Wood Robinson—Mipso holed up on a farm near Chapel Hill in the middle of May, teasing songs out in a barn whose tin roof rattled wildly during the near-daily downpours. As with all their writing sessions for Mipso, the band brought in instruments outside their usual repertoire (analog synths, lap steel guitars, a toy piano), slipping into a prolonged period of…

Total Assault On The Culture — March 2022

“The war in Ukraine is a disaster for the people of Ukraine and a terrible threat to us all, increasing the danger of nuclear war. We demand the immediate withdrawal of all Russian troops. We demand an end to NATO expansion. We oppose sanctions that will harm ordinary Russians. We say no to nuclear war and call on all countries to welcome refugees fleeing the war.” — Stop the War I have friends and extended family in Ukraine. The last 8 years and recent weeks may have been difficult, but the last week has been traumatic. I have found it very hard to do any music related work which is why…
