Billy Ocean - Lovely Day - All UK profits to children’s mental health charity Place2Be

To coincide with Children’s Mental Health Week (February 1st – 7th 2021) the legend that is Billy Ocean and singers from the Young Voices Choir have released a new and uplifting recording of the Bill Withers’ classic ‘Lovely Day’. Also featured on the track are award-winning broadcaster and musician YolanDa Brown and The Voice UK 2018 winner Ruti. Released on January 26th by Magic Star (Sony Music), all UK profits will go to children’s mental health charity Place2Be.

Place2Be launched the first ever Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015 to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health. Place2Be’s frontline teams estimate that 85% of the young people they support have been negatively affected by the pandemic, and have seen an increase in referrals around self-harm and suicidal thoughts in secondary schools. 1 in 6 children and young people have a probable mental health condition(Source: NHS Digital)

You might be wondering why I have posted this here. I worked for Billy Ocean a few years back on a number of UK shows. His voice, band, crew and management team were first class. I have worked with Young Voices on and off for a number of years. This time last year, I was asked to help out in the Young Voices Production office. Young Voices has dedicated the last 25 years to inspiring children between 7 and 11yrs to take an active role in music and live performance. It’s a truly fantastic experience for the children who may never have sung in a group bigger than their own school assembly. The team at Young Voices who give children the opportunity to sing are all first class too. Here’s to hoping this release can raise the essential funds needed to support the work of children’s mental health charity Place2Be.
