Following in the footsteps of his critically-acclaimed avant-freakout band Dufus — whose landmark 2003 ROIR album 1:3:1 was hailed by AllMusic’s Jesse Jarnow as “the kind of record that could potentially change a listener’s life” — Seth Faergolzia once again makes a delightful mess of musical boundaries with his latest project Multibird. Initially conceived as a kind of live-action orchestra for Faergolzia’s puppet rock opera film, 23 Psaegz, the project was so well loved it evolved into Multibird, the main vehicle for Faergolzia’s continued explorations into mind-bending musical realms, outsider art and freak-folk anthems.

Seth Faergolzia and his projects have played stages in over 20 countries and have made appearances at the End of the Road Festival UK, Greenman UK, Rockaway Beach Festival UK, Zappanale Germany, Hunsruck Open Air Germany, Burning Woman Germany, One of a Million Festival Switzerland, Out in the Kraut Switzerland, Fringe Festival and much more. In addition, they’ve played support for such acts as Animal Collective, the Yeahyeahyeahs, Kool Keith, Dan Deacon, Jeffrey Lewis, Moldy Peaches, Langhorn Slim, Frank Turner, Regina Spektor and loads more.

The quartet Multibird consists of Seth on acoustic guitar and vocal loops, Shaun on electric and foot percussion, Luke on bass, Emily on trumpet and percussion, all with soaring group vocals.

Where Dufus often reveled in punk-rock gymnastics and Captain Beefheart-esque abrasion, Multibird creates the communal amiability of a warm gathering around the hearth of Faergolzia’s musical vision. The music itself is unapologetic and curiously sculpted, ranging from expansive improvisations to raucous toe-tappers, to songs soft, touching and careful. All the while, Faergolzia’s enigmatic voice, captivating presence, and inimitable song structures anchor his enthusiastic crew.
