His ability to convey raw and authentic emotions through his music has garnered critical acclaim, with his debut solo record, "The Graceless Age," being recognized by various reputable sources such as Uncut, Mojo, The Guardian, and American Songwriter. “The longer you spend in the darkness with him, the more beauty you’ll see.” – Country Music Magazine John's connection to the Nobel Prize-winning American novelist William Faulkner adds a layer of literary and…

John Sinclair (1941-2024) Last of the Beatnik Warrior Poets and Cultural Revolutionary has passed away at 82. The work must go on

“Rock N Roll music is a weapon of cultural revolution. There are not enough musicians around today who are hip to this fact” John Sinclair is best known as the Sixties "marijuana" activist who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for giving two joints to an undercover policewoman. He was eventually freed when John Lennon and Yoko Ono spoke out on his behalf. Less understood is his role as the founder and chairman of the radical anti-war group, The White Panther Party, an offshoot of the Black Panthers. The Black Panther Party was a militant political organization formed after the brutal murders of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Robert…

John Sinclair – Renegade Poet, Beatnik and Cultural Revolutionary

Immortalized by John Lennon’s 1972 song that bears his name, Sinclair is an iconic figure of ‘60s counterculture, famous for, among other things, having co-founded the anti-racist White Panther Party and for managing Detroit’s legendary proto-punk outfit MC5 early in its history. Following a highly publicized two-year stint in prison for marijuana possession (Lennon’s song was a protest against his incarceration), Sinclair has stuck to his guns as an advocate for marijuana reform. “Living Euro to Euro, sleeping on the couches and extra beds of friends, a man without a country and a post office box in New Orleans for a permanent address.” That's how spoken word poet John Sinclair describes…

Formal apology on behalf of the United Kingdom to the people of the European Union regarding Brexit and a gesture of hospitality

Dear People of the European Union, I am writing this letter for and on behalf of the United Kingdom to extend our heartfelt apologies for the impact of Brexit on the people of the European Union, and for the personal insult, distress and uncertainty it has caused. I didn't vote for Brexit, I voted to remain and I have had to learn to respect and accept the outcome of the referendum and it's consequences. On the day of the results, back in 2016, I was driving a French News crew around London. Pierre the TV News programme producer turned to me at 4am as the crew prepared their equipment for the…

Save Acocks Green Library

Libraries are great for many reasons, and the importance of Acocks Green Library extends far beyond just being a repository of books. The Library was built in 1932, so it’s nearly 100 years old. Acocks Green Library was built in modernised Georgian style, in sandstone bricks and Grinshill stone. The City's Coat of Arms is over the main door. The internal joinery is of oak, including substantial areas of glazed oak framing, and the floors and dados in the entrance hall are terrazzo. The building was refurbished 1994-5. Acocks Green Library, like all the local Libraries across Birmingham, provides important services for the local community. Here’s some of the reasons why…

Iron Man Records will be at Moseley Record Fair on Sunday 3rd December 2023

People go to record fairs for a variety of reasons. Some go to buy and sell rare or hard-to-find Vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and other music-related items. Others go to discover new music, explore different genres or eras of music, or to meet friends or network with other music enthusiasts. I like the social aspect of going to a record fair, browsing through collections, listening to music, and meeting like-minded individuals who also share an unhinged passion for music. Iron Man Records will be at Moseley Record Fair on Sunday 3rd December 2023. MOSELEY ALL SERVICES CLUB, 91 Church Road, Moseley, BIRMINGHAM, B13 9EA. 12pm–4pm. FREE ADMISSION! Iron Man Records has had to develop a number of survival skills in the wasteland that is the world of independent music. At a time when most people are overwhelmed with music to choose from, playing music has become an unsustainable career choice for many. Earning enough to just cover basic costs has become almost a dream. I would like to invite you to become an Iron Man Records Patron. Musicians need a number of different…

Morus – European Tour Dates 15th – 30th September 2023

MORUS – CIALO OBCE: “I’ve long had a love affair with Polish hardcore and punk and singular in that obsession has long been Post Regiment—so you can imagine how excited I was to discover that two members had formed a new band called Morus. Fundamentally, this retains the same level of intensity and dynamism while being slightly angular yet melodic as their prior efforts and is well worth your listen. To me, there has long been something unique and slightly magical in the hardcore punk that came out behind the Iron Curtain and it is good to see the veterans of that era continue to produce infectious and vital music.” No…
