Iron Man Records releases to be included in British Library Sound Archive

March 23, 2017

Something happens while you are orbiting the Nation’s capital on the M25 for 25 hours in a van with a dangerous madman jumping around and shouting instructions from the back seat. James at British Library Sound Archive has been in touch, he wants to catalogue and archive all the releases on Iron Man Records. The music will become part of the nation’s audio & cultural heritage and it will be available (on a restricted access server) to anyone holding a British Library readers pass (writers, researchers, fans etc.). You have to go in person either to London or to the other site in Boston Spa, Yorkshire. The Library do not allow any material to go out on loan or be downloaded and they comply with current copyright legislation regarding sound recordings. When catalogued the releases will be part of the Sound & Moving Image collection.. http://sami.bl.uk

I have supplied physical copies of everything where they exist, and WAV files of all releases to ensure a good copy will be available.

James says “with world class facilities at hand we can provide the safest possible home for your releases, both for preservation and access, for many generations to come.”

Amazing. Some things cannot be explained. I will let you know when the materials supplied are available to access. James may be at work for a few weeks assembling it all at his end.

Police Bastard - Confined - Terrorizer review by Ian Glasper 2014

“CVLT Nation’s Top 6 Crust Albums 2013: Police Bastard are pretty infamous at this stage, so no need for any introductions with band member links to Doom, Sore Throat, Filthkick, Sensa Yuma etc. Their new album ‘Confined’ sticks to their cynical view of the world mixed with innovative guitar textures and driving industrial intensity. Thought-provoking monologues and confrontational lyrics bring you on a cold, doom-laden journey of perpetual war, psychological mind control, disillusionment and omnipresent bullshit. For a band that has been knocking about on and off for twenty years, they could be forgiven for reverting to the formulaic. However, they rethink and deliver a furious maelstrom of complex dark hardcore, best served cold.” CVLT Nation (Dec 19, 2013)

Police Bastard - Confined Band Photo 2013

“The album starts with “The Curse Of The Cross”, an anti-theistic slice of brutality, which leaves the listener in no doubt that Police Bastard mean business. You even get a quote from Richard Dawkins about teaching the bible as fiction. Musically they give us huge chugging riffs on “Brought To Our Knees”, which tackles the blandness of multi-national companies infecting the high street, set against the backdrop of the widening gap between rich and poor. For those that like their anthems loud and stompy, “Sick Sick System” will no doubt win a seal of approval with its knock about Punk mayhem and catchy refrain, ‘sick sick system, same old bullshit’. Elsewhere on the album, we get subjects as diverse as being captivated by virtual reality (Word Confined) and environmental disaster from the hand of mankind (Cries From The Earth). Album closer “Fortress” sees organised religion attacked once more, and poses the question, how long before it crumbles…..” – Zak, Ryans Gig Guide (Dec 01, 2013)

Police Bastard - Confined CD Back Cover

“….From Mark Orton‘s cover art through the final song, “Fortress,” Police Bastard have presented an album that uses hardcore’s battering ram approach to push through a series of songs that depict how humanity has destroyed the Earth. Lines such as “We’re sealing our fate” hammer home the idea that mankind has taken the world to the edge of existence, and we’ll all soon perish, should we not change our ways. Thankfully, Confined manages to never lapse into Earth Crisis-like preaching, choosing instead to quote the likes of John Gray‘s Straw Dogs: “Long after the traces of the human animal have disappeared, many of the species it is bent on destroying will still be around, along with others that have yet to spring up. The Earth will forget mankind. The play of life will go on.” While the music is basic hardcore which occasionally aims for bigger sonic targets, the lyrics and presentation are what make Police Bastard worth checking out……” Rock Star Journalist, Rock Star Journalist (Nov 22, 2013)

Police Bastard – “It’s Good To Hate” CD distributed by Cargo

September 19, 2014

Police Bastard - It's Good To Hate Front Cover 150dpi 1400x

Police Bastard - It's Good To Hate Back Cover 150dpi 600x

Police Bastard – “It’s Good To HATE” distributed by Cargo – October 6th 2014

“Police Bastard – ‘It’s Good To Hate’ CD and DVD Four new tracks and one cover here and its typical Police Bastard…powerful, inspiring, hardcore punk with passionate vocals (incidentally, when did Stu-Pid grow up and come just plain ‘Pid’?!). If any changes are noticeable since their original incarnation, then it’s probably a bit more metal influenced, with the occasional guitar screech and more Doom-esque growls of anguish, but apart from that its good as ever and especially that ‘Pid’ is back on vocals. The cover is The Mob’s ‘I Wish’ which, after the gentle intro, gets the Bastard treatment and it works too. The DVD has footage of the band live, mainly at Birmingham’s Market Tavern, but also from a European outdoor festival and the Kopi squat. It’s good quality (especially the outdoor one) and really makes me long to catch them live again as the last time was way back when 120 Rats was open (Late 90’s). 7/10.” Bald Cactus Issue 28 2011

The release contains a CD featuring four new songs and one cover version with an additional DVD containing live footage collected between 2007 and 2010. The record features the work of founding band members Pid and John Doom doing dual vocals together again for the first time in ten years. The gigs and recordings have also seen the return of Chris Crass, who took over on bass from Trogg in 1994. Seano Porno and Mark Badger from Last Under The Sun have picked up the work of guitars and additional vocals and the drummer is Simon James who also plays in Last Under The Sun and formerly of Rivers Edge. The release is dedicated to Trogg, Police Bastard’s first bass player who passed away in 2008. It was because of Trogg and his enthusiasm to do it all again that Police Bastard started writing, rehearsing, recording and touring again.

CD tracks include: The Lie, God Off, Erosion, Born To Die and a cover of I Wish (Originally written by The Mob)

DVD includes: Keep An Active Mind (2007-2008), Police Bastard Live at 25 Jahre AU Festival, Frankfurt, Germany (2008), Police Bastard Live at Kopi, Berlin, Germany (2010).

The CD tracks were Recorded, mixed, produced and mastered by Simon Reeves at Framework Recording Studios, Musoplex. Simon has worked with the likes of Napalm Death, Cathedral, Meathook Seed, and a host of others from The Cubans, Harpies, and The Nightingales. After a nearly 20 year dedication to new and alternative music in all its many forms, he has become a master at capturing ferocious guitars and brutal sounds. The new recordings are by far the best thing the band has produced to date.

The DVD includes “Keep an Active Mind” a film by Iron Man Records, edited by Anthony J. Hughes, documenting a year in the life of Police Bastard with footage from a show the band organised at The Market Tavern, Birmingham 2007, Steve Ignorant’s “Feeding of the 5,000” aftershow party, London 2007 and a tour of Europe in 2008 organised by Alerta Antifascista. The footage includes some live performances and out takes of the band on tour with a budget you can stick under a glass.

The footage of Police Bastard Live at 25 Jahre AU Festival, Frankfurt and Live at Kopi, Berlin, Germany was filmed, edited and directed by Peter Rhead.

Sleeve Artwork was done by Richard Daborn and photographs were taken by Lucy Pryor

“More great stuff from Iron Man in Birmingham…this was a total surprise, cause I’d not even realised that they had got anything new out, I’d seen em a couple of years before at the after party gig following Steve Ignorant’s Feeding of the 5000 gig (they were awesome then!) but assumed as I’d heard/seen nothing since that they’d split. Well a few weeks after getting this they played at the Old Wharf in Birmingham on a Sunday night, and along with Leatherface, I’d say the best band I’ve seen in 2010. This CD again was recorded a good while ago, but the best things are worth waiting for! 5 new tracks of brutal anarcho punk rock at its best! 4 own songs (like the title “God Off”) and a Mob cover (“I Wish”). Great line-up with (Stu)Pid and Jonny Doom together again on vocals, and 2 folk from Last Under The Sun to beef things up. Awesome! Also includes a live DVD as well.” – Steve, Ripping Thrash, Issue 27, 2011

"The End Point Of A Circle" Trailer for the Odyssey that is GIMPO’S M25 25hr Spin

August 17, 2013

Never get out of the van…..

Since 1997, the M25 has been the subject, canvas and location of a unique and unfolding work of performance art. Gimpo, ex-roadie and factotum of Bill Drummond, has driven round the infamous London Orbital for 25 hours, once a year. He will continue to do so until 2021 on a 25 year mission of discovery.

He calls it The M25 Spin.

The End Point Of A Circle: Trailer from Rob Wickings on Vimeo.

Documentarian Dominic Wade, who has already explored the world of extended filming with his raw and revealing film 24 Hours In London, has been given unprecedented access to Gimpo and his world in order to document The Spin. Dominic will be joining Gimpo and his crew every year until 2021 as they seek to find The End Point Of A Circle.

Gimpo is an unusual and endearing character, and he’s seen a lot in his many years on the road. He was one of the few witnesses to the K Foundation’s anti-art establishment actions, which led to the burning of a million pounds on the Isle of Jura in 1994. Bill Drummond accompanied Gimpo on the first Spin. Footage of that day was captured on VHS and will be included in the film.

The M25 Spin is part performance artwork, part club venue (the references to rave culture and its restless, mobile nature are clear) and part motoring oddity (it’s still possible to buy DVDs that are exclusively footage of a circuit of the M25. It’s entirely likely that Gimpo owns one of these tapes). Featuring interviews with Bill Drummond and Iain Sinclair, The End Point Of A Circle will document, embrace and eventually become part of the whole process.

“You wanna know why the M25 Spin is 25hrs and not 24? Le Mans is 24hrs. I just want to be one louder.” – Gimpo

Whatever else happens, The Spin will make a mark on its completion. Even if it’s just skid marks somewhere near Junction 27.

The End Point Of A CircleThe 25min Trailer for the Film Odyssey of Gimpo’s M25 Spin will be shown at Portobello Film Festival on 29th August 2013 http://www.portobellofilmfestival.com/2013/aug29-pop.html

And if you can’t wait til August 29th, here’s another short film from the M25 Spin 2013 by Iron Man Records

…and if you really, really can’t wait, here is the first cut from 3 years ago:

Gimpo’s 25

: Gimpo starts to reveal his vision. He wants this thing, this Gimpo M25 spin, to become an annual event. The closest Saturday night/Sunday morning to 21 March each year, to mark the opening of the rave/festival/drug-taking/banging/techno/hippie thing that Gimpo and his weird mates know all about. He wants loads of other people to join in, come out in their cars, vans, trucks, loaded up. A non-stop 25 hour party, road to nowhere sort of thing; car stereos cranked up, people screaming, pumping horns, blowing whistles. Hundreds, thousands, pouring out of Clacky services. Not a race, but a celebration of this broken down modern world, where the M25 would get clogged up, grind to a standstill, the authorities could do nothing – and Gimpo would be king.

From 45, by Bill Drummond

The Juniour Insurgent Transmitter Ensemble is accepting music for the Spin’s outside broadcast. Email a track (Under 25 MB) to voodoomagikfm@gmail.com All sounds received will be played on the 2013 M25 Spin.

English Heretic: GIMPO'S M25 25 Hour Spin 20th – 21st March 2010

February 23, 2010

All Agents:

GIMPO’s M25 Spin 2010.

Sat 20th to Sun 21st March 1pm.

Meet at ThurrocK Service Station, off M25 at 11am Sat 20th March.

This just in….. As many of you will recall a cache of lost and forgotten material was rediscovered during Jimmy’s house move early last year.

Some of the tracks were liberated by The Junior Insurgent Transmitter Ensemble for the soundtrack to the 2009 M25 Spin.

We have produced a single track DVD sampler and will be giving it away to all the “spinners” joining us this year.

The track featured is a unique version of the Pure Trance classic What Time Is Love and was recorded and performed by The KLF at the very first Helter Skelter illegal rave held on the 30th September 1989.

We will be meeting up at Thurrock Service Station just off the M25 at 11am on Saturday 20th March 2010 and will be on the London Orbital Motorway until 1pm on Sunday 21st March.

Every two laps we stop for fuel and pick up passengers / collaborators at Clacket Lane Services (clockwise side).

If you are unable to come along to this years Spin but would like to buy a copy of the DVD Sampler it is available at:

http://positivevoid.co.uk/PVCM25DVD09.htm

We look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Love Peace & Happiness

The Iron Man shop uses Ebay and sells Punk, Dub, Rock, Metal, Acoustic and Alternative music on CD, Vinyl, DVD and Video. When I started going to Record Shops they were independent businesses, and prices could differ greatly from town to town, shop to shop. These days Record Shops, both online and off, are largely chain owned and prices are fairly similar regardless. The few independents that are left are finding it hard to stay alive but they provide an important outlet for new and interesting music. Everything for sale in the Iron Man Shop I have found direct from the bands themselves or distributors who offer items at reasonable prices. I only sell what I listen to myself, what I like and I what can recommend to you. Every item is brand new and most of the items are shrink wrapped. New items are added each week and I try to keep the prices as low as possible.
