Anything written by this sadly neglected author and researcher is worth getting hold of and reading and re-reading. Lethbridges scientific approach to areas usually ignored by scientists is to be applauded and it is high time his books were made available to a wider audience.

Gogmagog: The Buried Gods is no exception and the account of his careful plotting of the shapes of these ancient gods, hidden for centuries under the turf and soil of Englands countryside, reads like a detective story. The gradual exposure of the figures, the composition of the earth in which they lie and the impact on local legends in particular and the English Mythos in general, is recounted in meticulous detail.

Anyone with a liking for English myth and legend or, indeed, anyone with only a cursory interest in the structure of the pantheon of our native gods and goddess, should read this book.

I can also recommend Lethbridges “Legends of the Sons of God”, which was just pipped at the publishing post by von Danikens “Chariots of the Gods”. In my humble opinion, the former is a better volume by far.
